Scuba Diving on Koh Kood

Koh Kood (also known as Ko Kut) has only recently been discovered for its exciting aquatic life. Our local dive sites are therefore pristine and not overcrowded by large diving operations. Scuba diving opens our eyes to a whole new world of adventure and possibilities – a magical realm of colour, beauty and endless fun! There is nothing quite like the sensation of breathing underwater and floating weightless amongst the colourful fish and the amazing marine life of the Gulf of Thailand. This will be an experience you will never forget!

The Island of Koh Kood (Ko Kut)

Koh Kood Coral Reefs Koh Kood is Thailand’s best kept secret. A tranquil, tropical emerald island, she boasts some of the most beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches and secluded bays in the country. You will be welcomed by friendly smiling people upon your arrival, wake to crystal clear azure waters, spend your days swimming in tropical sun kissed bays, and enjoy the shade of coconut trees. The island has only recently become accessible to tourists and is therefore charmingly unspoiled. Every day is seen out with the warmth of the setting sun and a refreshing drink in your hand. It’s easy to fall in love with this place! So where better to learn how to Scuba Dive than in Koh Kood? Our water is never cooler than 26 degrees and averages throughout the year at around 30 degrees. The shallow bays, lack of current and calm waters make Koh Kood an excellent and safe paradise to start your diving adventure.

Seahorses thrive in the waters of Koh Kood 30/11/10

Seahorse - Diving Koh Kood The last few days have seen a sudden appearance of tiny seahorses in the shallow waters around Koh Kood. It’s a magical experience to suddenly discover beautiful little creatures like this suddenly right on our doorstep (so to speak!). Seahorses are not uncommon in Koh Kood, but we have not seen them so close to our house reef for some time and we are happy to be able to share them with customers Discover Scuba Diving and our Fun Divers have loved seeing them too. Some of the babies we have seen have been no bigger than a centimeter in height and could easily be mistaken for a tiny piece of seaweed! We are happy to have seahorses, the inspiration for our logo so close to home.

Nemo lives in Bang Bao Bay! 25/11/10

nemo bang bao bay It seems as though Nemo and his family have moved to our very own house reef Bang Bao Bay! We have recently discovered a healthy family of saddleback clown fish living just 10 meters away from our shop… very exciting! Mum and Dad are very protective of their young and of course their eggs which they guard pretty well and see off any potential threats with a determind knock to the mask! Bang Bao Reef is a perfect place for novice divers and we often take our Customers Discover Scuba Diving here in the shallow and calm Bay. It ha wonderfully clear water most mornings and there is so much to see! The reef is full of fuseliers and rabbit fish with a number of pufferfish, sting rays, scorpionfish and cuttlefish. It’s so wonderful to have such healthy marine life right on our doorstep so that we can show people just how magical diving is around the island of Koh Kood.

Glorious Diving at Hin Loy 21/11/10

Nishimura at Hin LoyKoh Kood Divers got to see Hin Loy in all it’s glory today with 25 metre vizability and big schools of thousands of fish! WOW! We had a full boat of fun divers to enjoy the spectacle too and everyone was amazed to see the whole divesite at a glance. The conditions are improving daily and we can now enjoy the magic that diving in Koh Kood has to offer. Beautiful harlequin sweetlips, big schools of fuseliers, baby titan triggerfish, big grouper, juvenile yellow box fish and lots lots more. We have also found a new big boat to rent so that we can take more divers. It’s a beautiful boat with a lovely captain and his wife so we are happy to have found them. We now plan to make day trips with 2-3 dives a day and snorkeling with a beach picnic included. Our customers can enjoy a lunch of Thai food and fruit in the shade of coconut trees and take a dip in the turquoise sea during their surface interval, before exploring the next dive site of the day. It’s a lovely day trip and we are excited to be able to offer it now on the comfort of our new boat!

Exploring New Divesites 14/11/10

Lionfish Koh Kood Koh Kood Divers were out in the water again today trying to find some new places to dive. With the help of some local fishermen who told us of a secret spot just off shore, we have found a new amazing dive site with so much to see and plenty of healthy corals and big fish! After dropping down to 18.9m and sand sand sand… we kept swimming to find more and more rocks and corals with heaps of marine life. Jess found a rock with 3 small lionfish living around it which was really cool. They have been seen in Koh Kood occasionally but are pretty rare. We also found huge blue spotted ray, a white-eyed moray eel and many huge travelly hunting the waters! But by far the highlight of our dive was being lucky enough to see a pair of cuttlefish mating! It was an incredible experience. We were able to watch for 5 or 6 minutes and the cuttlefish were quite happy with us being there and taking pictures.
We are still working on a name for the divesite, but we’ll let you know when we think of one! (Maybe Hin Jessie!) Koh Kood is certainly full of surprises and we are sure there must be more amazing diving to find. We can’t wait to find it!… Watch this space…

Scuba Fun for all the family 11/11/10

DSD Holmqvist Family The Holmqvist family from Sweden joined us today for some fun with fish and an Introduction to Scuba Diving. After trying diving at The Beach Natural the other day, Adam would not leave his parents alone and wanted to dive some more! So the whole crew came over to Koh Kood Divers for a DSD and a lot of giggles! Mum and 14 year old Ida were bit nervous to start with, but soon found what all the fuss was about and loved every minute! And so did we! What a lovely family and a great way to spend an afternoon on the island. We think 10 year old Adam is a natural born diver and hope he will do his Junior Open Water next time they visit Koh Kood! Discover Scuba Diving is a PADI program designed as an Introduction to diving. There is no study involved, just some simple explanations about how diving works, and how to get the most fun out of it possible in a safe environment. Our PADI Instructors will take you to a sheltered and shallow bay (usually our very own Bang Bao Bay!) to show you a few skills and then take you for a gentle dive along our beautiful reef to check out some fish and have some fun!

Natural Fun! 09/11/10

Try Dive at The Beach Natural - Jess It was an afternoon of bubbles and lots of fun at The Beach Natural Resort, Bang Bao Bay today. The Koh Kood Divers team offered Free Try-Dives for anyone who wanted to have a go… and a lot of people did! Mums, Dads, Boys and Girls lined up to see what all the fuss was about. It was fun for all the family but the kids really showed us how to dive with a big SMILE! We hope to offer Free Try-Dives every week at THE BEACH NATURAL so that everyone has an opportunity to breath underwater in a safe and fun environment, and maybe even fall in love with it like we did! To see more photos from the day, check out our facebook page Koh Kood Divers.

DMT Skills Circuit 23/10/10

DMT Miro was back in the water with Instructor Bob today to practice his skills circuit. As part of the Dive Master training, Miro must master all 20 skills and show he can demonstrate them all effortlessly and in a smooth relaxed manner. The boys were busy for over an hour refining the 20 skills from mask removal, no-mask swim to air depletion and gear removal / replacement. Miro is improving rapidly and looking more and more comfortable in the water. We are looking forward to his stress test practice… Well done Miro!

Diving our house reef Bang Bao Bay 22/10/10

Our house reef at Bang Bao Bay was looking healthy and beautiful today with 2 lovely juvenile harlequin sweetlips which have made this their home. We also have a large number of baby Blue Spotted Rays which live here – making it quite the nursery for young marine life. The dive also gave us a big school of fuseliers, great barracuda and a masked porcupine fish. We are very lucky to have such a thriving reef right on our doorstep.

Fun Diving Koh Raet and Ao Tum 21/10/10

Layla De Waegh Father Luc and daughter Layla De Waegh had a great day fun diving today with Bob and Bui. 2 great dives at beautiful Koh Raet and Ao Tum saw some cool nudibranch and massive grouper along with big schools of snapper and fuseliers. The vizability is getting better too after some recent big storms. NOW the rainy season is over! Blue skies for 3 days so hopefully we are now seeing the start of high season.

Koh Kood Divers New Sign! 20/10/10

Koh Kood Divers New Sign The Koh Kood Divers Team have been busy making the shop look great for the coming season. There are a lot of bad backs and sweaty brows around here that’s for sure, but it’s all worth the effort. The Bang Bao shop is looking fantastic and today we put up our beautiful new sign (hand painted by Alice!). Thank you boys!

Diving Hin Loy 08/10/10

Dive Master Trainee Miro Our new Dive Master Trainee Miro from the Netherlands went for his first dive on Koh Kood today with our Dive Master Alice. Beautiful diving at Hin Loy – full of fish! Among the highlights were some spectacular fan corals, cuttlefish, razor shrimp, humphead parrotfish, plenty of harlequin sweetlips and schools of fuseliers. The corals are certainly looking healthier after the cooler monsoon season. Miro is back out in the water tomorrow with Instructor Bob to practice his skills circuit. Meanwhile, back at the shop… Jess and Bui have finally got the compressor working after a few set-backs with our island electric supply making life difficult! So we are on a petrol engine now and the first tanks were filled today HOORAY!

First Dives of the Season! 06/10/10

With the rainy season drawing to a end on the Island of Koh Kood Thailand, and our boat back in the water after a little holiday, we had a great start to high season with some beautiful dives today at Hin Loy and our very own house reef Bang Bao. Mark (a fellow DM trained in Koh Tao), Chris and Nong were visiting from Hong Kong and enjoyed great vizability and heaps of beautiful fish with Jessie leading some lovely dives. Mark Chris and Nong Fun Diving Our beautiful and unspoiled island is alive and refreshed after a long and very wet monsoon! The rivers are full and our waterfalls are brimming with clear fresh water. This cooler weather has also given some of our corals a chance to recover after a very hot season at the beginning of the year. After 3 months off over the monsoon, Koh Kood Divers is now open for business and ready for adventure! All PADI scuba diving courses are available at our dive school in Bang Bao Bay, including Intro dives, PADI Open Water Course all the way through to PADI Dive Master and Assistant Instructor. Learning to dive here on Koh Kood is an experience you will never forget! Our waters are calm, clear and full of exciting marine life just waiting for you to discover. Come and have some fun and enjoy a whole new world of colour and adventure!

The Big Move – Koh Tao to Koh Kood 18/09-23/09 2010

Bui and Jess carry the compressor Jessie and Alice finally moved FOR GOOD to beautiful Koh Kood! The journey was pretty epic with several chapters to the ordeal… Firstly a night boat from Koh Tao to Chumpon, pick-up from Bob and Bui to Pattaya where we picked up our new compressor. Then the drive to TRAT, overnight in Trat, Ferry to Koh Kood, Taxi to Bang Bao Bay where we discovered our bridge had been swept away in the monsoon! (and now it’s dark) So, compressor, 13 tanks, 70 kg weights, 6 boxes of dive gear, 2 computers, 10 bags, a grass cutter and a bed had to cross the river by kayak (well, the compressor went on a little fishing boat… thanks guys!) in the full moon light! We arrived to find no electricity and no running water (just a bucket full of tadpoles!) Check out more photos of our journey on Facebook (Koh Kood Divers) But a week later we are fully wired (electric is in), water flowing, all gear sorted and ready for business! The view alone was worth the effort. This truly is a PARADISE. And the jungle creatures are a small price to pay for that! Our house reef Bang Bao is looking healthy and full of life. Harlequin Sweetlips, Sting Rays, Great Barracuda, Schools of Parrotfish and Rabbit Fish just in front of our shop. The sun is shining and it looks as if the rainy season is drying up. Time to go diving… We made it! Kayak over the river

We are located in two places on the island. Our dive base is located in bang bao bay in the south of the island. You have to walk true siam beach resort and you will see a big sing. Cross the bridge and you arrive in our dive base.

The snorkel and dive equipment sale office is located in the middle of the island close to the Italian Restaurant.
For more detail look on the bottom of the page and see the map or click here

To get to Koh Kood, you first need to travel eastbound to Trat (TRAD), the closest town to our ferry and speedboat piers. Trat is the easternmost province of Thailand, very close to the Cambodian border and about 315 km from Bangkok. This is the jumping-off point to the islands of Koh Chang, Koh Maak and Koh Kood.

FLY FROM BANGKOK

Flights are operated by Bangkok Airways and go twice daily. The trip takes 45 minutes.
Bangkok Airways : +66(0) 2265 5678, +66(0) 2265 5555 (Bangkok Office) , +66(0) 39 52 5767-8 (Trat Office) Trat Airport Office : +66(0) 39 525776

Air-Con bus from Bangkok to TRATBUS FROM BANGKOK
The easiest and most comfortable way to travel to Koh Kood is to break up your journey by spending a night in Trat. Previous customers who have tried to do the whole journey, door to door in one hit have arrived exhausted and frustrated. So we recommend you take an Air-Conditioned bus or the mini van from victory monement from either Ekkemai or Morchit Station in Bangkok to TRAT BUS TERMINAL. The journey takes around 5 hours.
Alternatively, if you want to take a bus directly from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, there is a company who offer Air-Con and Mini Buses to Trat Bus Terminal. It takes around 4 hours and costs 250 THB. Buses leave from the Airports 1st floor, Gate 8 at 7.40AM, and 11AM.

TRAD

Once you arrive into Trat, there are a number of small guesthouses to choose from. We recommend POP Guesthouse. The rooms are clean and comfortable with hot water, around 300THB. A night in Trat will give you a chance to go to the ATM (no ATMs in Koh Kood) and buy anything else you want before going to Koh Kood. Your guesthouse will also arrange boat/ferry tickets for you and transfers to the pier on request.
More info about trad you can find on this link

TRADMAP

In the morning you can either take the
Ninmoungkorn Express Boat – takes 2 hours and you will arrive into Aow Salad on the North East of Koh Kood. Price 350 THB
or
Speed boat – we recommend Ao Thai Speed Boat services which offer a free pick up taxi from your guesthouse in Trat. Ao Thai speed boat currently offers twice daily speed boats departing at 09:30 and 14:30 and arrives directly into our very own Bang Bao Bay. The trip takes around 1 hour. Price 600 THB

Anyone traveling from Pattaya can also take an Air-Con bus directly to Trat Bus Terminal.
